## The MERL Value Stream
#### A better way to connect your work, your data, and your fundraising
MERL stands for Measurement, Evaluation, Research, and Learning. Most organizations treat these as separate reporting tasks. We treat them as a connected system. The MERL Value Stream describes how value flows between an organization's programs and its funders — and how that flow can be designed to produce learning, not just documentation. When it works well, data collected from programs flows upstream into evaluation and learning, which strengthens fundraising, funder relationships, and program design over time.
This is the framework we use to design systems, evaluate platforms, and help clients think about what their data should actually be doing for them.

We have experience guiding clients through platform transitions — including the shift away from Salesforce Foundation Connect and, more recently, the move from Nonprofit Success Pack to Nonprofit Cloud. In each case, our role has been the same: help clients navigate change responsibly, applying experience and honest judgment rather than defaulting to what a vendor recommends. Many of our clients have chosen bespoke solutions designed around their actual workflows rather than generalized platform replacements.
